In the autumn semester of 2024, the seminar week will take place for the second time in Davos, on the Schatzalp, as part of the new teaching project “Maintenance and Repair on Site” in collaboration with the Beer Merz visiting studio. The project integrates the teaching of heritage conservation, construction and sustainability with architectural design. A design studio on building in the existing context, an elective course and a hands-on design-build seminar week will be coordinated to create a semester offering focused on maintenance and repair in architecture.
Hotel Schatzalp is characterised by constant change, through remodeling, maintenance and repair work. Changing uses as well as owners and the associated changing needs offer a complex starting situation for the repair measures to be planned in the elective “Repair: Keep in Place“. The repairs in the hotel are carried out during the Design-Build seminar week by the students collectively together with selected specialists.
We stay and work at the Hotel Schatzalp. During the off-season we will have the hotel almost entirely to ourselves. The hotel kitchen will be served and will cater for us during the week. The cost category is A (max. CHF 250.-) excl. travel.
The integrated seminar trip is offered together with the guest studio Beer Merz and the Raplab. Participation in the seminar week is only possible for students who are also enrolled in the elective subject ‘Repair: Keep in Place’ and the visiting studio of Beer Merz: Last Islands in HS24. Separate enrolment in the seminar week is not possible.
Teaching team: Chair of Construction Heritage and Preservation and Studio Beer Merz.
