Technological progress and tradition are not opposites; they are interconnected, creating a dynamic interaction, especially in the younger building stock. High-tech architecture, a style deeply rooted in innovations in technology and design, challenges conventions and redefines construction possibilities.
London, where the movement’s origins and evolution are deeply embedded in the city’s identity and skyline, is the ideal backdrop for this exploration. We will experience the interplay of technology and heritage through visits to emblematic High-Tech buildings and contemporary evolutions. Visiting RSHP architects at their London practice inside the Leadenhall Building, touring iconic structures like Lloyd’s Register, and meeting Patty Hopkins at the seminal Hopkins House will grant us a deeper understanding of the movement. Direct exchanges with key figures and guided tours will offer a behind-the-scenes perspective on the philosophies and processes that have driven their work to date.
How does innovation shape our built environment? How does a design language driven by technology become architectural heritage? These are the questions we aim to explore. We will observe and discuss the role of High-Tech structures in the city’s development, explore their past and present, and contemplate the future of construction and preservation.
