The principles of preservation are considered conservative. However, in the era of climate change, the common practice of demolishing old buildings and replacing them with new ones is becoming less and less defensible; the future lies in the responsible treatment of the existing building stock. In this regard, architecture and real estate have a lot to learn from the methods of landmark preservation.
