Construction Heritage & Preservation, Repair, Digital Fabrication, Innovative Constructions & High-Tech Architecture
Scientific Staff and Doctoral Candidate at the Chair of Construction Heritage and Preservation at ETH Zurich (since August 2020). As part of the interdisciplinary research project “High-Tech for High-Tech”, Matthias is investigating the potential of digital fabrication for the repair of 1980s high-tech architecture. The project is part of the NCCR Digital Fabrication.
Previously he was Junior Consultant at PD in Berlin (2019-20) and Student Architect at Diamond Schmitt Architects in Toronto (2018). Matthias studied architecture at TU Munich, Università di Roma ‘La Sapienza’ and Toronto Metropolitan University. Master thesis with Prof. Dr. Rainer Barthel: “Stadium for Toronto based on principles of lightweight construction”. Bachelor thesis at Studio Max Dudler: “New Central Library Berlin”.
Study-accompanying work in various architectural offices in Munich as well as employment as a research assistant at the Chair of Building History, Historical Building Research and Monument Preservation at the Technical University of Munich (2013-14) and at the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the Ludwigs-Maximilians-University of Munich (2018-19).
Postgraduate studies at the School of Design Thinking at the Hasso Plattner Institute Berlin.
Certified Associate in Project Management (PMI) since 2020.
Co-President of the AAA (Association of Assistants at the Department of Architecture, ETHZ)
